How to Use the Flooring Calculator

Choose your units, enter the floor area and the board length and width, then a wastage percentage and the number of boards per box. Press Calculate flooring to see the board count, boxes to buy and the area those boards cover.

What it accounts for

• Boards are counted from the area divided by the area of one board.
• A wastage allowance (default 8%) covers cuts, doorways and future repairs.
• Boxes are rounded up from the board count with wastage.

Getting a better number

Rooms with many angles, alcoves or a staggered layout waste more, so raise the wastage allowance. Solid wood and laminate usually want about 5-10% extra; engineered or vinyl click planks are similar. Buy all packs from one batch for a consistent finish.
