Reading the result

• The angle is the arctangent of the rise divided by the run.
• The gradient is the rise divided by the run, as a percentage.
• The ratio is 1 in N, where N is the run divided by the rise.

Accessibility

Wheelchair ramps are commonly limited to about 1 in 12 (8.33%). A gentler 1 in 20 is easier, while anything steeper than 1 in 8 is very steep. The acceptable limit and landing requirements are set by the local code, so confirm them before building.
